Most
of you reading this will remember ' the good old days ' when Writtle had it's own policeman and police station. I am
also told that it wasn't that long ago that Writtle had 2 officers and
little old Roxwell had it's own bobby and police station!
Well I hate to say it folks, and I honestly don't want to be the one to
extinguish any hope of a return to those magical days but it is a distant
memory and despite a certain parishioners continued insistence that things
will not improve until the clock goes back 20 years, the current structure
is what we have to make do with, for the time being at least! Please allow
me this opportunity to try to explain how we currently operate and how the
Police service in Chelmsford affects the people of Writtle.
The Chelmsford Community Police Team (CPT) is what it says, a TEAM. We exist
to tackle problems across the Division. Writtle does not have it's own
dedicated bobby who does nothing else but patrol the village and is
available to deal with all problems 24 hours a day. I am the nominated
officer for the village and it is my job to liase with the community and
various organisations such as neighbourhood watch and the Parish Council. As
and when problems are reported or identified we decide on the appropriate
course of action to tackle the issue. Emergency incidents should always be
reported using 999 and if you require the attendance of Police for a matter
that does not require an emergency attendance initially the call should be
made to 01245 491212 where the details will be taken and a Police unit may
be dispatched as soon as possible or the report may be deferred for the
attention of the CPT and if it is a Writtle problem it will normally be
passed on to me. But please remember I only work 40 hours a week. When I am
on duty I do carry a mobile phone 07850882214. When I am not on duty the
mobile diverts.
I do apologise for the formality of the above but it would be unfair of me
to give you a lighthearted insight into what I do without explaining how I
am seriously required to operate.
