Community Policing 'WRITTLE' style

Part 4

Summary

Please understand that the day's activities shown above are only an example of a typical day for your local bobby. It is not my intention to trivialise any of the issues depicted merely an attempt to show you how diverse and frustrating the role of a community officer can be. Many of the issues are real concerns for the residents of Writtle and I do understand the upset when it appears that nothing is being done. Please accept that I know these are real problems and as I write this real action is being taken to try and deal with those responsible.

Unfortunately the vast majority of the problems that affect Writtle are caused by Writtle residents. Most of the offending vehicles outside Writtle Post Office are Writtle people who are just too lazy to use the available free car park 50 metres away. The youths who cause untold misery to residents in the Long Brandocks area and The Green with their anti-social behaviour are Writtle children. I would like to take this opportunity to ask parents to consider the following. If your child goes out on a regular basis in the evening do you really know where he or she is going and what they are up to? Take the opportunity to take a walk around the Village of an evening to visit Long Brandocks shops or The Green and witness for yourselves the intimidating anti-social behaviour of youths that may well be your own children. All too often I speak with parents of children that have come to my notice and as far as they are concerned they had no idea their child was even walking the streets yet alone causing problems to others.

I hope this article has been informative as well as making you smile occasionally, but, as I trust you will understand, when we talk about Police work, it is a serious subject and most issues that require Police involvement are serious and normally mean that someone somewhere has suffered as a result.
