From the Parish Council

There have been a couple of well attended public Parish meetings this year unreported by Disgruntled. So I asked Chris Hibbit (Chairman) to pen a few words about the past year

Over the last year the Writtle Parish Council has focused on youth matters.
Here is an update on the key projects.

Playing field extension
The new piece of land we have obtained on a long term lease has been sown by Chris Thorogood and it is growing well. The plan is to move all junior football to the new field. This will include the girl’s teams and the youngsters who currently play at Montpelier Farm. We hope that access will be down the farmer’s field by the side of the current field with a net-pave car park on the new field. We currently have a grant application to the Borough Council for a portacabin which will provide toilet facilities for players and supporters. Thanks to a grant from the County Council the current entrance to the playing field will have electronic gates.

Youth Club
We are now very hopeful that a youth club will start in the new scout hut on Monday nights. The Parish Council is providing funds for a professional organiser from the YMCA to lead a team of volunteers to run the club. Later in the year we hope to extend the age group and run two sessions on the same night. The aim is for the Club to start in early 2007

Youth Shelter
We received a petition from a group of young girls in the village to erect a youth shelter on the playing field .They have raised the initial cash from a series of fund raising events. The police and Borough Council have been very supportive of this project and again we hope this will become reality in early 2007

PCSO Ian Hilton on the wrong side of the road but on the right side of the law

Police Community Support Officer
Following the public meeting in the village hall in 2005 we have decided to employ a PCSO with a 50/50 funding from the village and the Police force. Ian Hilton took up the post this summer and has made an immediate impact .We now have regular meetings with the local Police inspector and we are very encouraged by the significant improvement in detection levels. Ian is already well known in Writtle and has helped in many problem areas.
