Writtle Parish Annual Meeting
26 March 2003

The gathered Parish Council

On the evening in question the Parish council gathered to meet the assembled masses of their electorate.  They looked confidant and ready for anything.  This year unlike last year leaflets were distributed to the households of Writtle and the meeting was well attended.

The assembled masses

I have been to few of these types of meetings so I won't bore you with all the procedural stuff about approving minutes from last year, various reports from councilors and how much money was spent or not spent as the case maybe.
So onto the interesting bits!

Provision of new Bus Shelter in Ongar Road.
A new bus shelter is being provided on Ongar Road. Some the residents in the immediate vicinity of this shelter objected to its erection which they believe will attract unruly youths to congregate outside their homes.  They believed that the normal consultation procedures had not been carried out prior to decision being made to build a shelter.  Much discussion sometimes heated  went on between the aggrieved residents and the Parish. Eventually they agreed to meet at a mutually agreed time to discuss this further.

Policing in the Village
This is a regular topic at all village meetings, and all the same things are said every year, with the same replies. This year it was slightly different as the Police contingent sent their apologies and did not attend.  This resulted in a much shorter Police Bashing session than usual.
It may be my rather cynical view but the  the Writtle Neighbourhood Watch AGM was held the previous evening, at which I believe the Police did attend.  They probably still had ear ache from the previous evening.  I will be pleased to receive a brief report on that meeting should anyone wish to provide it.

Rescued
One of the Muscovy Ducks that was rescued on the night and given a new home by a local resident.

Rescued

"A Vine Finnish"
This year the meeting ended with a small drinks party for all those who attended.  An excellent idea which allowed the free mixing of residents and Parish councilors, an excellent idea that worked very well and I hope is repeated very year.

Conclusions
An interesting and amusing evening rounded off with a couple off glasses of quite good wine.  On the whole I think well done and good luck for the rest of the year.  A couple of new faces have joined the Parish Council. (see election results)
